This year, as a Policy Ambassador, I chose to become an advocate and a voice for my fellow educators, but more importantly, for my students. I have been an educator for nearly 20 years, and I knew it was my time to step up, make connections, and help bring about positive change. What I found was not just my single voice, but the power of a unified chorus made strong by thousands of voices.
The legislative session has come to a close, but our ability as educators to be instruments of change does not end here. At times, our efforts may feel futile, but the truth is, there is undeniable strength in numbers.
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." – Martin Luther King Jr.
We witnessed the power of our unity in rallies, in the sea of red worn at school sites, and in tough and encouraging conversations with legislators on Capitol Hill. The efforts of our dedicated union members have been more vital than ever this year. And our fight is far from over. There are still opportunities to stand up for public education and support our brothers and sisters in neighboring labor unions.
Now, we rally again. But this time, by gathering signatures for the referendum on HB 267. Our voices will be heard in November 2026 when we cast our votes, sending a loud and clear message: The hardworking people of Utah deserve the right to speak up through collective bargaining. The unified chorus of educators, firefighters, nurses, and other union workers will echo even louder than the chants that filled the Capitol halls this session.
I’ve always known my voice was strong, but this experience has taught me that together, we are unstoppable.
