The Utah Education Association’s Bargaining, Professional Rights and Responsibilities (BPR&R) Committee plays a vital role in supporting the well-being and professional standing of UEA members. Through its work, the committee advances fair bargaining practices, protects due process, and upholds the highest standards of professional conduct within Utah’s public education community.

Serving as the initial review and appeal board for actions taken by the UEA Legal Services Director under the Unified Legal Services Program, the BPR&R Committee ensures that members’ legal and professional rights are respected and defended.

Beyond its legal responsibilities, the committee is deeply committed to education and advocacy. Members receive training to safeguard employment rights through effective negotiations and professional representation. The committee also promotes ethical standards aligned with the NEA-UEA Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, conducts case studies on professional conduct, and encourages ethical and professional behavior among educators.

Through its ongoing work, the BPR&R Committee fosters a culture of professionalism, supports sound personnel policies, and helps define and protect the civil and human rights of UEA members.

The committee welcomed the re-appointment of Chair Janalyn Duersch in July 2025, continuing its mission to strengthen and defend Utah’s educators through collaboration, advocacy, and principled leadership.
