Jennifer Graviet, a public educator at Sandridge Junior High School in Roy and a longtime Utah Education Association member, has been named one of 48 recipients nationwide of the 2027 Travelers Awards for Teaching Excellence.

Presented by the NEA Foundation, the awards recognize public school educators for classroom excellence, leadership in the teaching profession, community engagement and efforts to expand opportunities for students. This year’s recipients teach in urban, rural and suburban communities across the country.

Graviet is a former president of the Weber Education Association, serving her profession through local union leadership and her work in the classroom.

Over decades in the classroom, Graviet has taught thousands of Utah students, including Hailey Higgins, UEA’s current director of communication and public relations, who took her seventh-grade English class at Sandridge.

The NEA Foundation announced the recipients in September 2026. Supported by Travelers, the awards are part of a teaching excellence program that has recognized hundreds of educators since 2001.

Graviet’s selection brings national recognition to a Utah educator with longstanding ties to her school community and her union.

Last year, UEA member and 2026 Educator of the Year Sayre Posey was awarded the destingushed honor, as well.
