Former television journalist appointed UEA communications director

The Utah Education Association has appointed Hailey Higgins as Director of Communication and Public Relations.

“I’m thrilled to help advocate for teachers and the education profession,” said Higgins. “I look forward to working with educators across the State of Utah.”

Higgins comes to UEA after working as a Communication Specialist for the Davis School District’s Office of the Superintendent. Before transitioning to education communication, Higgins spent 13 years as a television journalist, earning two Upper Midwest Emmy awards and two RTDNA Edward R. Murrow awards. Over those years, Higgins worked for FOX13 and ABC4 in Salt Lake City and local network affiliates in Sioux Falls, SD, and Idaho Falls, ID.

“I wouldn’t be who I am today without great teachers. They ensured I was challenged, supported, and successful,” said Higgins. “In many ways, I consider this my opportunity to give back to those who helped me most.”

Higgins was born and raised in Weber County. She graduated with a BS in Communication with an emphasis in electronic media from Weber State University. She enjoys cheering on the Utah Jazz, taking long walks with her dog and watching independent films.

Higgins replaces Mike Kelley who served as Director of Communication and Public Relations for 15 years before his retirement in January 2023.
