UEA Political Action Committee endorses Spencer Cox for Governor
After interviewing candidates, the UEA Political Action Committee (UEA PAC) voted to endorse Lt. Governor Spencer Cox in the Republican primary race for Utah governor. Three Republican gubernatorial candidates accepted the invitation to interview with the UEA-PAC.
UEA President Heidi Matthews said the endorsement speaks to Cox’s knowledge of Utah education issues. “The UEA PAC committee was impressed with the way Spencer Cox answered questions about investing in students. He clearly understands the needs of our schools and supports us, as public school educators, in our desire to provide additional resources for our students.”
“I have the greatest respect for educators, so it’s a tremendous honor to have their support,” said Cox. “As governor, it will be my top priority to ensure Utah’s students and teachers have the tools and resources they need to succeed.”
The 2020 Utah Primary Election will be held by mail, with ballots mailed in mid-June and due by June 30. Only registered Republican voters will be eligible to vote in the Republican gubernatorial primary. View voting information and register to vote at vote.utah.gov.
The UEA-PAC is directed and run by educator members from throughout the state. Chaired by the UEA president, the UEA-PAC Executive Council has bi-partisan representatives from each local UniServ and the UEA Board of Directors. Since no UEA member dues are used for political parties or candidates, UEA-PAC allows educators to have a voice in political issues affecting children and public education.
