(As submitted by the candidate.)
During my educational career, I have always been active in UEA, serving as WEA local president, the UEA Board of Directors, NEA Board of Directors, and numerous committees on all three levels. After retiring in 2013 with 38 years in the classroom, I was elected to the UEA Board of Directors in 2015, currently serving as Membership Chair. Again, I want to bring this experience and history to the UEA Retired Board of Directors for another term. I currently work part time as a mentor/coach for beginning teachers in the Weber School District.
I have attended the last six NEA-Retired Organizing Conferences and garnered many ideas to build organizational capacity within UEA-R which is a rather new group to our advocacy family. I also would bring to this position knowledge about current attacks on public pension retirement systems. This is a crucial issue for both the active and retired organizations as we promote and monitor legislation on Capitol Hill. I would be proud to represent retired members throughout the state and ask for your vote.
