About the UEA Charles E. Bennett Human and Civil Rights Award
The UEA Charles E. Bennett Human and Civil Rights Award is presented annually in conjunction with the UEA Honor Roll Awards at the Superstars in Education Banquet to an individual who has engaged in human and civil rights activities that have benefited education and had community-wide impact.
The 2018 Charles E. Bennet Human and Civil Rights Award was given to retired educator from Davis School District, Dr. Jackie Thompson. In addition to teaching, Dr. Thompson worked as the Coordinator of Education Equity for Davis School District and has been a past president of the Utah Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education. Her work relating to human and civil rights has been recognized through numerous awards at a state and national level. Unable to attend the banquet, Dr. Thompson's son Michael Thompson accepted the award on her behalf.
