Great Public Schools Celebration

NOTE: Due to the shortened NBA season, there was no award presented in 2012.

About the Award:

Each year the Utah Education Association and the Utah Jazz honor the efforts of Utah public school educators by naming an outstanding educational program and individual for the Great Public Schools Celebration. Entries are judged based on how the program or individual helps students, teachers and the school.

Winners are honored guests of the Utah Jazz and receive:

  • Two tickets to a Utah Jazz game (up to four tickets for the educational program category),
  • Recognition during a halftime award presentation at the game,
  • Dinner at a Salt Lake-area restaurant, and
  • A classroom visit by the Utah Jazz Bear (within 50 miles of EnergySolutions Arena).

Eligibility
Nominations are accepted for licensed educators who are currently teaching in a Utah public school and are members of the Utah Education Association. Nominators must also be UEA members.

Deadlines
The award nomination deadline is typically in mid-February. All applications must be submitted on the official nomination form. Additional information and nomination forms will be posted on this page when available.

Previous Winners

2011 Official Rules:

  1. Nominations must be returned to the Utah Education Association (875 East 5180 South, Murray, Utah 84107), on the official nomination form by Feb. 11, 2011. Entries with more than one typewritten page attached or not on the official form may be disqualified.
  2. Nominees must be members of the Utah Education Association (UEA) and licensed educators who currently teach in a Utah public school. Nominators must also be UEA members.
  3. One winner will be chosen in each category (outstanding educational program and outstanding individual educator). Each winner receives:
    •  Recognition during halftime at a Utah Jazz game;
    •  Tickets to the Utah Jazz game where they are honored (up to two [2] tickets for the outstanding individual educator winner and up to four [4] tickets for the outstanding educational program winner;
    •  $100 gift certificate for dinner at a Salt Lake-area restaurant (arranged by UEA); and
    •  A classroom visit by the Utah Jazz Bear (within 50 miles of EnergySolutions Arena, date and time to be coordinated with the Utah Jazz).
    Approximate value of each winning prize is $300.
  4. Entries will be judged at the sole discretion of a committee selected by the Utah Education Association and the Utah Jazz. Winners will be notified by telephone following the nomination deadline.
  5. By entering, each participant agrees to hold harmless and indemnify the Utah Education Association, the Utah Jazz, and/or the National Basketball Association and its Member Teams, NBA Properties, Inc., and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents against any and all liability, damages or causes of action (however named or described), with respect to or arising out of either entrant’s participation, or the receipt or use of the prizes awarded in the promotion.
  6. Winners understand the Utah Education Association, the Utah Jazz and the NBA entities (NBA, NBA Properties, etc.) reserve the right to use the winner's voice, name and photograph without compensation or notification. Entries may be used for advertising and/or trade purposes without compensation unless prohibited by law.
  7. Employees of the Utah Jazz, the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, the Utah Education Association, the National Basketball Association and its Member Teams, NBA Properties, Inc., and of their respective affiliates, parents, subsidiaries and advertising agencies, and the directors, governors, employees and agents of such entities, and the immediate family members of all such persons (spouse, parents, siblings and children), are ineligible to participate or win.
  8. All entries become the sole property of Sponsor and will not be returned. By entering, each participant agrees to abide by these Official Rules and all decisions of Sponsor (which are final in all matters). No correspondence will be acknowledged.
  9. The Utah Education Association and the Utah Jazz reserve the right to cancel or modify this contest at any time without notice.
