NEA: We Educate America

The 2012 National Education Association Representative Assembly (NEA-RA) will be in Washington, D.C. this summer at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

ALLOCATION & REGISTRATION FORMS FOR DELEGATES

• Everyone planning to attend the NEA-RA as a Utah delegate needs to be registered.
• The NEA is striving to Go Green, local presidents who have a non-work email address on file will receive their reports via email. Those with school email addresses will receive their registration forms via U.S. Postal Service mail by mid-February.

HOTEL INFORMATION 

• The Utah delegation will be housed at the OMNI SHOREHAM HOTEL, 2500 Calvert Street, Washington D.C. 20008.
• The hotel is situated on 11 acres in the beautiful Rock Creek Park in northwest Washington, D.C. This historic hotel has been host to presidents, world leaders and inaugural balls since 1930. The National Zoo, the Capitol and the White House are within two miles of the hotel.

 HOTEL RESERVATIONS

• The hotel rate is $189 per night for singles and doubles and an additional $25 per night for each person over two. The tax rate is 14.5 percent. Please see the chart below which lists the rates with additional taxes.

• Due to the number of rooms available, registered delegates and others required to attend the NEA-RA will be housed before non-RA guests. If extra rooms are needed for family or friends, please contact Janet Towers at 801-266-4461, ext. 108.
• Reservations cannot be made directly with the hotel.

• All delegates are responsible for making their own airline reservation arrangements through their local association.
• Washington, D.C. has two airports that service the area; check flights and prices for both airports.
  • Reagan National Airport (DCA) - 8 miles from hotel
    • Cab – approximately $20-$25.
    • Shuttle Service – approximately $12 per person, must be scheduled in advance by calling 1-800-BLUE-VAN (1-800-258-3826). The cost for an additional passenger is $10.
    • Metro – approximately $1.35 - $2.55 (Woodley Park/Zoo Metro Station).
  • Dulles International Airport (IAD) - 28 miles from hotel
    • Cab – approximately $50-$65.
    • approximately $29 per person, must be scheduled in advance by calling 1-800-BLUE-VAN (1-800-258-3826). The cost for an additional passenger is $10.
    • Metro approximately $10 one-way or $18 round-trip, (Woodley Park/Zoo Metro Station).

• The Pre-RA Caucus meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the UEA building auditorium where additional RA information will be available as well as voting on NEA business items and the opportunity to meet other delegates from Utah.
• Delegates should plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. on Friday, June 29. The last day of the RA will be Thursday, July 5, so most delegates will depart on Friday, July 6. Tentative Agenda
• In Washington, D.C., the first meeting of the Utah delegation is scheduled for Saturday, June 30 (time to be determined). The meeting will be held in the Palladian Ballroom in the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
