UEA/KUED Join Forces on Teacher Awards

11/13/2015

In an effort to provide greater exposure and recognition for teachers, the Utah Education Association welcomes local PBS affiliate KUED as the media sponsor of the UEA Excellence in Teaching Awards, its annual teacher awards programs. In lieu of hosting its own teacher awards, KUED will partner with the UEA in this endeavor.

Ten Utah teachers will be selected from nominations submitted by parents, students, teachers, school employees, administrators and community members. Any licensed Utah educator working in a Utah public school can be nominated. Each winning teacher will receive a $1,500 cash award and be recognized during UEA’s Superstars in Education banquet in May.

“We are excited about the opportunity to expand our relationship with KUED, an organization that has consistently demonstrated its commitment and support for Utah students and teachers,” said UEA President Sharon Gallagher-Fishbaugh. “Having KUED as a media sponsor will provide a higher profile and allow us to showcase a few of the many great things happening in Utah classrooms.”

As part of the new partnership, KUED will produce a video segment on each of the 10 winning teachers to be shown at the awards ceremony and available online.

“KUED has had a deep commitment to education since its founding," says General Manager James Morgese. "Utah's teachers have a powerful impact on our community and in the lives of our children. KUED is proud to honor the outstanding work of these dedicated professionals as a media sponsor of the UEA Excellence in Teaching Awards.”

Award winners will be selected by a panel of judges that includes previous years’ winners. To be selected, teachers must demonstrate instructional expertise, creativity, innovation and student-driven practices that impact student lives.

Nominations for the 2016 UEA Excellence in Teaching Awards are accepted now through January 15 at myUEA.org/awards.
